Günther Grollitsch was born in Klagenfurt (Austria) and trained in contemporary dance in Frankfurt am Main, Rotterdam and New York. He has danced with Amanda Miller’s Pretty Ugly Dance Company and the Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company in Israel, among others. After presenting his first works there, he continued his career as a choreographer, dancer and teacher in Germany. As co-founder and long-time co-director of steptext dance project, he has participated in numerous productions since 1997 and developed his own pieces, often with a special focus on space and music. He has choreographed at renowned opera houses and was awarded the European Tolerance Prize 2009 for his production “Gegen die Wand” at Theater Bremen. Together with Corinna Mindt, he is the artistic director of tanzbar_bremen. He is constantly developing new formats for and with tanzbar_bremen, curating and organizing festivals such as the biennial international iFestival for inclusive dance art eigenARTig in Bremen. In 2014, he completed the Executive Master in Arts Administration program at the University of Zurich. Until the end of 2015, he worked as a ZAV artist placement officer / dance at the Federal Employment Agency. In collaboration with the Swiss company BewegGrund and tanzbar_bremen, he created the dance theater piece KIPPPUNKT, which was performed at the Dampfzentrale Bern and the Schwankhalle Bremen in 2016. From April 2017 to October 2018 he worked as an application manager for Martinsclub Bremen e.V., since then he has supported various institutions in Bremen (Blaue Karawane e.V., Deutsches Tanzfilminstitut Bremen, Integration durch Kunst e.V., Landesverband TanzSzene Bremen) in this area. In February 2018, he performed as a dancer and choreographer in DER EINTÄNZER with the eighty-year-old Gisela Peters-Rhose in the Schwankhalle Bremen.
With more than 30 works from his authorship, he has been part of ProdÀrt e.V. since 2019, its co-founder and a member of the association’s board since 2022.
