Inclusive house Humboldtstraße

In the eastern suburb of Bremen, a house community for people with and without disabilities as well as a new inclusive meeting and activity space for the district is to be created over the next two years. To this end, barrier-free living space will be created on four floors and a publicly accessible activity space will be established on the garden level.

The focus is on residents with an interest in art and artists with disabilities. Residents with the same/similar interests and backgrounds promote the possibility of building an active and homogeneous house community and filling the place with cultural diversity.

By creating the property for the house community, alternative living and the possibility for a self-determined everyday life for people with disabilities and especially artists with disabilities of all disciplines in the municipality of Bremen is created.

On the garden level of the building, a public meeting place and a cultural venue with courses, studios and other cultural, social and community activities is being created.

Among other things, courses in sign language, art and theater workshops as well as studio operations will be held here. In addition, there will be space for visual and performing arts by people with disabilities, inclusion in a cultural context, networking and advice. Through publicly accessible exhibitions, discussions and presentations of dance and theater and art by people with disabilities, as well as open courses, studios and participatory offers that can be planned and organized together with the residents of the house, the work and artistic positions of artists with disabilities from all disciplines will be made accessible to the immediate neighborhood as well as the entire citizenry of Bremen and beyond.
